Doyden Castle sits right on the edge of the Cornish coast.

You can actually rent the castle and stay here overnight through the @nationaltrust - No neighbours, just the sea below and sunsets like this.

I didn’t want to leave.

Welcome to the dark mines of Botallack.

Confined spaces underground are one of my biggest fears.
Imagining that men — and even children — once worked in these narrow tunnels, never knowing if the rock would collapse or if water would rush in, feels like a nightmare.

Today, you can walk along the Tin Coast.
The industrial ruins are still here, and somehow the weight of that time is still present.

These mines also formed the dramatic backdrop for the Poldark series.

Today is the last day the Christmas lights are on.
Every room is decorated for the season, from festive details to a long Christmas table set with recipes that make you hungry just by looking at them.

What makes it special: in some of the original rooms, you can actually sit down for coffee and tea.
Outside, the large gardens invite you to wander — and even in January, trees and shrubs are already in bloom.

Like many National Trust places, you can also stay here.

I had never seen the Northern Lights before and couldn’t really imagine what they would feel like.
When we were in Churchill, we stayed up all night hoping for a glimpse. With our phones, we only caught a faint glow in the sky — and even that made us incredibly happy. We woke everyone up, excited about what we thought was already the highlight.

Around 2 a.m., cold and tired, we decided to head back to our room.
Walking across the wooden porch, a bright band of light suddenly moved towards us. It felt unreal — almost otherworldly. We just stood there, holding on to each other, staring at the sky.

A moment I’ll never forget and one I’m deeply grateful to have experienced.
